Frieze Art Fair Yearbook 2004-05 A recent show of Niklas Eneblom’s work was titled, after one of his paintings, ‘The Great Indoors’, which gets it just right. He is an explorer of interiors, turning buildings inside out and picking over their strange contents. In his droll canvases, vivisected passageways float in neutral monochrome expanses, like exploded architectural diagrams. Often it’s unclear just what sort of place is depicted, but amid these mysterious spaces tiny doll’s-houses people go about their business, unconcerned. With an eye for incongruous detail and style both precise and naïve, Eneblom works as a sort of urban folklorist. Steven Stern
